A
favorite of those who live on the northern
part of Phuket, Nai Thon beach is known for its
"squeaky sand".
As you walk the beach here you'll
hear what I mean.
Nai Thon
is slowly developing and not as well known as some
of the southern beaches. But, it's well worth the
drive. All along the coast road there - opposite
the beach are some very nice - locally developed
bungalows and resorts. Small, new restaurants open
regularly - all with Thai favorites on the menu.
The northern end of the beach sports some rocky
outcroppings that the 2005 tsunami made even more
spectacular - and are reputed to be some of the best
snorkeling on the island.
The small
resorts along this strip are usually quite
reasonably priced
- and well worth a stay if you
enjoy the quieter, less crowded location - I do!
As time
goes by, this part of the island is quickly going
upscale - though Naithon itself still has the small
beach character that has made it so popular. The
Naithonburi Resort opened in 2006 and is the
first resort that has more than just a few bungalows
along the beach road.
Mulit-million dollar villas are being
built in the area and it will soon go quite
upscale.
It is a great beach - give it a try!
